Catslife: I didn't get it either until I saw Bond.
Actualy, same here. I didn't even know who he was before Bond. I saw a picture announcing him in the role, was duly unimpressed with him via photo, went to see Casino Royale for the car (Aston Martin fan), and came out thoroughly smitten and blown away by Daniel Craig.
So if you haven't seen the film...go....then let us know what you think.
If you have seen it and still aren't into him, you may need to seek some professional help. :)

Yes I have seen the film and I was impressed by him as Bond - he does a mean action hero. But I preferred the bad guy.
